The information in Data Mine: Hospitals comes from Hospital Compare, a website created by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The data, submitted by hospitals, provides users with information on how patients rate their hospital experience, how well a facility provides care for patients who undergo surgery and how well the outcomes are for patients treated for pneumonia, heart attack and heart failure. It also shows the rate that patients are subjected to “combination” CT scans, rather than single CT scans. Experts note that these measures should be used as one way to gauge a hospital’s performance.
