The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) announces the release of the 2020 Nationwide Readmissions Database (NRD) and the NRD Cost-to-Charge Ratio (NRD CCR) Files.
The NRD is a unique and powerful database designed to support various types of analyses of national readmissions for all patients, regardless of the expected payer for the hospital stay. This database addresses a large gap in healthcare data – the lack of nationally representative information on hospital readmissions for all ages.
The HCUP NRD CCR Files can be used to estimate how hospital charges translate into actual costs. Costs reflect the actual expenses incurred in the production of hospital services, such as wages, supplies, and utility costs. Hospital charges represent the amount a hospital billed for the case. For some analyses, users may be interested in estimating how hospital charges translate into actual costs. The HCUP NRD CCR Files enable this conversion.
