Data Release on Spending by Canadian Hospitals

Share this:

The Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) released data that highlights how Canada compares internationally in relation to hospital spending.  The data enables an examination of hospital expenditures, including a breakdown of the share of hours worked by staff in acute inpatient units, emergency services and long-term care units in hospitals.

The data tables and visualizations provided enable the exploration of trends and information on hospital spending by type of expense and by service area at the provincial, territorial and international levels.

Note: The hospital spending trends in this release reflect the most recent information available in the Canadian MIS Database (CMDB) from the 2020–2021 data cycle (which ends March 2021).
