Severe Maternal Morbidity is the term used to encompass specific chronic and acute pregnancy and childbirth complications. The National Perinatal Epidemiology Centre (NPEC) released the ninth report from the National Clinical Audit of Severe Maternal Morbidity (SMM) in Ireland, reporting on 329 cases of SMM, among 55,281 maternities, occurring in the 19 Irish maternity units in 2020.
