April 2022 SNF QRP Data Refresh on Medicare Care Compare

Share this:

SNF QRP data has been updated on Medicare Care Compare (data was updated on April 27th).

The data are based on quality assessment data submitted by SNFs to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) from Quarter 3, 2020 through Quarter 2, 2021. The data for the claims-based measures will continue to display Quarter 4, 2017 through Quarter 3, 2019 data for this refresh while CMS performs additional measure analyses.

Summary of data updated as follows:

Measures:

  • Percentage of SNF residents whose functional abilities were assessed and functional goals were included in their treatment plan (Q3 2020_Q2 2021)
  • Rate of potentially preventable hospital readmissions 30 days after discharge from a SNF (Q4 2018-Q4 2019, Q3 2020)
  • Rate of successful return to home and community from a SNF (Q4 2018-Q4 2019, Q3 2020)
  • Medicare Spending Per Beneficiary (MSPB) for residents in SNFs (Q4 2018-Q4 2019, Q3 2020)
  • Percentage of SNF residents whose medications were reviewed and who received follow-up care when medication issues were identified (Q3 2020_Q2 2021)
  • Percentage of SNF residents who experience one or more falls with major injury during their SNF stay (Q3 2020_Q2 2021)
  • Percentage of SNF residents who experience one or more falls with major injury during their SNF stay (Q3 2020_Q2 2021)
  • Change in residents’ ability to care for themselves (Q3 2020_Q2 2021)
  • Change in residents’ ability to move around (Q3 2020_Q2 2021)
  • Percentage of residents who are at or above an expected ability to care for themselves at discharge (Q3 2020_Q2 2021)
  • Percentage of residents who are at or above an expected ability to move around at discharge (Q3 2020_Q2 2021)
  • Percentage of SNF residents with pressure ulcers/pressure injuries that are new or worsened (Q3 2020_Q2 2021)

Note: CMS has decided to continue with the data freeze for claims-based measures for an additional six months. This decision will allow CMS more time to analyze the calculation of these measures, given the required comprehensive exclusion of claims data that occurred during Q1 2020 and Q2 2020, and the effect of that missing data on such aspects of measure calculation as lookback periods, and risk adjustment. CMS is targeting the July 2022 refresh of Care Compare for the resumption of claims-based measure updates on Care Compare.
