Data Update to MyHospitals Public Reporting Website

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare’s (AIHW) MyHospitals national reporting platform allows users to explore information about their local hospital and Local Hospital Network (LHN), as well as trends across Australia.  The latest update to MyHospitals included hospital resources 2019–20.

New data presenting information on Australia’s public hospitals in 2019–20 was added to the MyHospitals reporting platform, based on data from the National Public Hospitals Establishments Data (NPHED).

The NPHED includes data on public hospital establishments, including public acute and psychiatric hospitals, and alcohol and drug treatment centres. It also includes public hospitals that provide subacute and non-acute care (for example, rehabilitation and palliative care hospitals).

The updated data provides a summary of the number of public hospitals in Australia, average available beds, and staffing information whether delivered and/or managed by hospitals or other administrative units (LHNs and state/territory health authorities).

In 2019–20, there were 695 public hospitals in Australia including 62,700 available beds, with 2,200 (3.5%) of these in public psychiatric hospitals.
