CMS to Preserve Critical Patient Safety Measure in Inpatient Quality Reporting Program

Becker’s Hospital Review writes CMS is keeping a critical patient safety measure in its Inpatient Quality Reporting Program.  As reported in July (AHT 7/1/2021) the Leapfrog Group had issued a call to action for individuals and organizations to join with them in urging CMS to rescind their proposed removal of a critical patient safety measure.  Over 75 organizations and individuals signed on to their letters that were submitted to CMS.

The “Death Among Surgical Inpatients with Serious Treatable Complications” safety measure, also known as Patient Safety Indicator 4, or PSI-4, will remain in place for now, per CMS Inpatient Prospective Payment System final rule for 2022.
