Hospitals and emergency departments (EDs) across the country play a critical role in the COVID-19 pandemic. The data collected for these areas can provide a better understanding of resource utilization and outcomes for COVID-19 patients. The Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) released updated data on hospitalizations and ED visits for patients with a diagnosis of COVID-19 in Canada.
From January 2020 to February 2021, there were more than 36,320 hospital stays in Canada (excluding Quebec) for patients with a diagnosis of COVID-19. During the same period, more than 143,810 ED visits for COVID-19 were reported by participating jurisdictions.
