Online Tool Compares Emergency Department Visit Rates for Suicidal Ideation and Attempts

A new online data tool from AHRQ allows users to explore state- and age-specific rates of emergency department visits related to suicide ideation and suicide attempts. The tool is among several interactive data visualizations that support the agency’s ongoing efforts to make data readily available to researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders. Previous data visualizations allow users to explore data related to health insurance cost sharing, characteristics and costs of potentially preventable hospital stays, the impacts and causes of traumatic brain injuries and trends in opioid-related hospitalizations.

The newest tool is based on a statistical brief from AHRQ’s Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project – STATISTICAL BRIEF #263: Emergency Department Visits Related to Suicidal Ideation or Suicide Attempt, 2008-2017, which presents statistics on ED visits related to suicidal ideation or suicide attempt among individuals age 5 years and older.
