The new hospital price transparency regulation that went into effect on Jan. 1 requires hospitals to post their prices online (AHT 1/4/2021). The regulation requires hospitals to post consumer-friendly information about the prices of 300 services that can be scheduled in advance, such as X-rays, blood tests and knee replacement surgeries.
Texas Public Policy Foundation, along with Health Cost Labs, have developed a Hospital Price Transparency Compliance Index that will provide compliance rates by state. The score card shows how many of each states’ hospitals have posted their secret negotiated rates. The greater the compliance, the more opportunity for downward pressure on hospital rates.
