Joint Commission to Commence Public Reporting of Hospitals with High C-Section Birth Rates in 2021

USA Today reports the Joint Commission, the nation’s largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care, plans to start publicly reporting next year on hospitals with high cesarean section birth rates.

As previously reported (AHT, 1/13/2020), the Joint Commission were to begin publicly reporting hospitals with consistently high cesarean birth rates on the Quality Check® website that lists Joint Commission accreditation status, by July 1, 2020, using data reported by hospitals during the calendar years 2018 and 2019.

The Joint Commission currently reports on hospital performance in relation to Perinatal Care – evidenced based measures assessing the care of mothers and newborns in relation to receipt of antenatal steroids, elective deliveries and breast milk feeding of newborns.
