Analysis of Medicare Data in Australia Reveals High Out-of-Pocket Costs of Specialist Medical Services

Official Medicare data released in response to an October 2019 Senate Estimates Question on Notice reveal high out-of-pocket costs to see specialists in Australia, according to the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association. In Australia the Government Website ‘Medical costs finder’ provides information about the cost of specialist medical services. It covers common hospital procedures with more procedures and treatments to be added in 2020. However the Website does not provide the actual out-of-pocket cost for patients suffering serious medical conditions.
