Maternal Mortality Rate in Australia in 2017

New release from Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) on maternal deaths in Australia found the maternal mortality rate in Australia in 2017 was 6 deaths per 100,000 women giving birth. From 2008 to 2017, there were 248 women reported to have died during pregnancy or within 42 days of the end of pregnancy and a maternal mortality rate of 6.7 deaths per 100,000 women giving birth.

This report is compiled from data held by the AIHW in the National Maternal Mortality Data Collection (NMMDC). Data are provided by states and territories and contain information on the deaths of women reported to have died while pregnant or within 42 days of the end of pregnancy between 2006 and 2017.
