HANYS released its new Report on Report Cards, which evaluates and ranks hospital report cards. HANYS’ Report on Report Cards, provides a ranking of 12 government, nonprofit and for-profit hospital quality report cards. HANYS’ Report on Report Cards found wide variation in ratings among the 12 report cards. The highest-rated report cards tend to be government reports, while private companies fared worse. HANYS uses a five-star system that evaluates the report cards on factors such as methodology, use of evidence-based measures that are endorsed by/aligned with national government-based or accrediting organizations, and use of appropriate data. Interestingly, none of the 12 reports received five stars.

The twelve report cards included in this HANYS report included:
NYSDOH Clinical Reports, NYSDOH Hospital Profiles, CMS Hospital Compare, The Joint Commission Quality Check, CMS Hospital Compare overall hospital ratings, Vizient Quality Leadership Award, The Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Grade, Healthgrades America’s Best Hospitals, IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals, U.S. News and World Report Best Hospitals by Specialty, U.S. News and World Report Best Hospitals for Procedures and Conditions, Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals.
