September 2019 Data Refresh on LTCH Compare & IRF Compare

Data has been updated on both Long-term Care Hospital (LTCH) Compare and Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF) Compare Websites as part of the September 2019 quarterly update.

The LTCH Compare refresh included updated quality measure results for over 420 long-term care hospitals that report data to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), as part of its Long-term Care Hospital Quality Reporting Program (QRP).

Measures reported on LTCH Compare include:

Complications (Healthcare-acquired conditions):

  • Rate of pressure ulcers that are new or worsened (Q3 2017_Q2 2018)
  • Percentage of LTCH patients who experience one or more falls with major injury during their LTCH stay (Q1 2018_Q4 2018)

Effective care: (Q1 2018_Q4 2018)

  • Percentage of patients whose activities of daily living and thinking skills were assessed and related goals were included in their treatment plan
  • Percentage of LTCH patients whose functional abilities were assessed and functional goals were included in their treatment plan

Infections (Healthcare-associated infections): (Q4 2017_Q3 2018)

  • Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI)
  • Central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI)
  • Clostridium difficile infection (CDI)
  • Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacterial infection

Prevention: (Q3 2016_Q2 2017)

  • Influenza vaccination coverage among healthcare personnel
  • Percent of residents/patients assessed and appropriately given influenza vaccine

Readmissions: (Q4 2016_Q3 2017)

  • Rate of potentially preventable hospital readmissions 30 days after discharge from an LTCH

Successful return to home and community: (Q4 2015_Q3 2017)

  • Rate of successful return to home or community from an LTCH

Payment & value of care: (Q4 2016_Q3 2018)

  • Medicare Spending Per Beneficiary (MSPB) for patients in LTCHs
