AHRQ Stats: Uninsured Population

Using information from the Household Component of the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS-HC), this Research Findings report examines changes in the percentage of non-elderly adults, ages 18-64, who were uninsured for at least 1 month during each calendar year (the “ever uninsured rate”), presenting 2013–2016 estimates. The research found the percentage of adults ages 18 to 64 who were uninsured at any time during the calendar year fell from about 24 percent in 2015 (45.1 million adults) to 22 percent in 2016 (42.3 million adults).
