A new report found that every year, at least 62,000 Massachusetts residents suffer from a medical error, and the problem has not improved in the past five years. The report – The Financial and Human Cost of Medical Error… and how Massachusetts can lead the way on patient safety – from the Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety, found that those 62,000 preventable harm events resulted in over $617 million in excess health care insurance claims – just exceeding one percent of the state’s Total Health Care Expenditures for 2017.
