Healthgrades announced 894 recipients for its annual Patient Safety Excellence Award and its annual Outstanding Patient Experience Award.
The awards recognize hospitals that make patients safety and patient experience a top priority. This year, 460 hospitals across the nation achieved the Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award, and 434 hospitals received the Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award.
The patient safety award winners are among the top 10 percent of all short-term acute care hospitals reporting patient safety data. The hospitals are measured by outcomes for 14 patient safety indicators defined by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, including the “retained foreign object” indicator, which makes hospitals that report the adverse event ineligible for the award.
Winners of the patient experience award represent the top 15 percent of hospitals in the nation for patient experience. Healthgrades assessed 3,449 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys to CMS for admissions from January through December 2017. The surveys included questions on cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms to whether the patient would recommend seeking care at the hospital.
