U.S. News has announced plans to use data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the American Hospital Association (AHA) in their ranking of rehabilitation hospitals in 2020.
In the summer of 2020, when U.S. News publishes the 2020-21 Best Hospitals for Rehabilitation, the rankings will for the first time incorporate patient outcomes and other objective measures. The opinions of physicians who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation, as measured by the annual U.S. News physician survey, will continue to factor into the rankings, but they will no longer be the sole factor.
U.S. News has identified two data sources they expect to use in the 2020-21 rankings.
- Certain measures available on CMS’ Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF) Compare website will be incorporated into the methodology.
- Certain items from the American Hospital Association Annual Survey Database, including items not used elsewhere in the U.S. News rankings, will become factors in the Rehabilitation rankings
