The latest quarterly nursing home quality data refresh has been posted to CMS Nursing Home Compare on Jan 30 2019, including SNF QRP data.

Nursing home quality data was updated on CMS Nursing Home Compare as follows:

1. Short-stay residents measures (15 measures):
a) Quality measures used to calculate the star rating (7 measures) reporting data for 17Q3_18Q3 except for 3 measures:

  1. Percentage of short-stay residents who were re-hospitalized after a nursing home admission (17Q3_18Q2)
  2. Percentage of short-stay residents who have had an outpatient emergency department visit (17Q3_18Q2)
  3. Percentage of short-stay residents who were successfully discharged to the community (17Q2_18Q1)

b) Flu and pneumonia prevention measures (2 measures) reporting data for 17Q3_18Q3

c) Additional quality measures (SNF) (6 measures):

  1. Percentage of SNF residents with pressure ulcers that are new or worsened (17Q2_18Q1)
  2. Percentage of SNF residents who experience one or more falls with major injury during their SNF stay (17Q2_18Q1)
  3. Percentage of SNF residents whose functional abilities were assessed and functional goals were included in their treatment plan (17Q2_18Q1)
  4. Rate of successful return to home and community from a SNF (16Q4_17Q3)
  5. Rate of potentially preventable hospital readmissions 30 days after discharge from a SNF (15Q4_17Q3)
  6. Medicare Spending Per Beneficiary (MSPB) for residents in SNFs (16Q4_17Q3)

2. Long-stay residents measures (16 measures)
a) Quality measures used to calculate the star rating (9 measures) reporting data for 17Q4_18Q3

b) Flu and pneumonia prevention measures (2 measures) reporting data for 17Q4_18Q3)

c) Additional quality measures (5 measures):

  1. Number of hospitalizations per 1,000 long-stay resident days (17Q3_18Q2)
  2. Percentage of long-stay low-risk residents who lose control of their bowels or bladder (17Q4_18Q3)
  3. Percentage of long-stay residents who lose too much weight (17Q4_18Q3)
  4. Percentage of long-stay residents who have symptoms of depression (17Q4_18Q3)
  5. Percentage of long-stay residents who got an antianxiety or hypnotic medication (17Q4_18Q3)

*Note regarding SNF quality measure results: CMS announced in October 2018 that it will not publish an additional previously posted quality measure – Potentially Preventable 30-Day Post-Discharge Readmissions – at this time. Additional time will allow for more testing to determine if modifications to the measure and method of displaying it are needed.  CMS will not post reportable data for this measure, including each SNF’s performance, as well as the national rate.

Additional note: Because of implementation of a new Nursing Home health inspection process, how the star ratings are calculated has been changed.
