The U.S. spends far more on health care than other wealthy nations, but that investment does not achieve better quality of care or improved health outcomes . Furthermore, both spending and quality vary widely across, and even within, states. The Commonwealth Fund has released a tool that allows for the comparison of health care spending, relative to quality of care, in all states, as well as in the nation’s 300-plus local health care markets, called hospital referral regions (HRRs).
