Healthcare IT News writes the average number of platforms hospitals are running today is 16 – i.e 16 distinct electronic health records platforms – according to statistics from HIMSS Analytics, looking at 571,045 providers affiliated with 4,023 hospitals. Only 2% of hospitals have a single vendor in use at affiliated practices. And 75% of hospitals are dealing with 10+ disparate outpatient vendors. The average health system has 18 different EMR vendors when looking all the way across affiliated providers. Healthcare as an industry needs interoperability to be able move forward now that the system is digital.
