The Acute Coronary Syndrome Programme is ensuring patients suffering from a STEMI (major) heart attack have direct access to standardised services in designated centres around Ireland. This report – Heart Attack Care Ireland 2016 – is the second heart attack report from the national clinical programme for Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). The monitoring programme shows that the shift to PPCI as the main treatment for ST elevation myocardial infarction (heart attack) has been maintained and improved upon in 2016 putting Ireland on a par with international standards or indeed above. The performance of hospitals in providing timeliness of this treatment is included in the report.
