Higher 30-day spending on heart failure (HF) care was associated with lower patient mortality following a hospitalization for HF in a Medicare claims study. The study included data from over 1.3 million patients hospitalized for HF across over 2,900 hospitals from 2011 to 2014. Study findings have implications for policies that incentivize reduction in payments without considering value.
