The Health Services Executive (HSE) has launched the HSE 2016 National Sepsis Report. The report found the documented number of sepsis associated hospital deaths has fallen by 30% over the past five years. The positive outcomes described in the report – particularly the 30% decrease in sepsis associated mortality rate – are due to better recognition and treatment in Irish hospitals nationally. This report shows that Ireland’s sepsis associated hospital mortality rate is now less than 20%, which benchmarks well internationally and represents a 20% decrease in mortality since the NCEC National Clinical Guideline on sepsis was published in 2014.
