U.S. DHSS Releases Statistics on Infant Mortality

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released statistics on infant mortality nationwide.  The data from the National Center for Health Statistics presented 2013 period infant mortality statistics from the linked birth/infant death data set (linked file) by maternal and infant characteristics. The linked file differs from the mortality file, which is based entirely on death certificate data. Results—The U.S. infant mortality rate was 5.96 infant deaths per 1,000 live births in 2013, similar to the rate of 5.98 in 2012.
