The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania’s (HAP) released the Hospital quality and patient safety report. The report – Pennsylvania Hospital Quality: Achieving More Together shows statewide improvements in reducing harm by 37 percent and readmissions were reduced by 26 percent. HAP’s Pennsylvania Hospital Engagement Network and participating hospitals through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ partnership for Patients Initiative have been working to reduce preventable harm and hospital readmissions for three years. The effort focused on reducing harm in a hospital like central line- associated bloodstream infections, surgical- site infections, adverse drug events, patient falls and hospital readmissions. The results show more than 136,319 of those harmful possibilities were avoided and about $700,000 in costs were avoided in Pennsylvania.
