Study finds hospital prices vary widely leading to consumer confusion

Interesting article in today’s New York Times on the confusion of hospital pricing.  The article cites a new study in the Archives of Internal Medicine that found hospital prices were all over the map, where fees for a routine appendectomy in California can range from $1,500 to — in one extreme case — $182,955. Researchers found wide variations in charges even among appendectomy patients treated at the same hospital.
