The latest data update to the Illinois Hospital Report Card and consumer guide to health care Web site (healthcarereportcard.illinois.gov), which included updates to quality, infection, nurse staffing and infection data, was published today. Hospital quality measures reported are for time-period October 1, 2009, to September 30, 2010,
Also included in this data update were:
- Added new health care-associated infection data on surgical site infections associated with coronary artery bypass and total knee replacement surgeries, based on data from July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011. Included data in a statewide aggregate report.
- Added information on the percentage of hospital visits by major categories of insurance provider, with private pay and charity included where no insurance coverage exists.
- Added new information on the Services page to include conditions and procedures for specific pediatric services for number of patients, median length of stay and median charge for each, based on data from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010. Updated the adult conditions and procedures for hospitals to include data from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010.
- Updated the Agency for Health Research and Quality (AHRQ) “Inpatient Quality”, “Patient Safety”, and Pediatric Quality” measures to report data from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010. Performed risk adjustment procedures on AHRQ Mortality, Patient Safety and Pediatric Quality measures.
- Updated composite “Process of Care Measures” from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Hospital Compare performance measure data from October 1, 2009 to September 30, 2010.
- Updated “Thirty Day Mortality Rates” and Readmission Rates” from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Hospital Compare data from October 1, 2009 to September 30, 2010.
- Updated “Satisfaction Survey Responses” data to report the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Hospital Compare satisfaction measure data from October 1, 2009 to September 30, 2010.
- Updated Surgical Care Improvement measure data from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010.
- Updated nurse staffing data for the intensive care units, medical -surgical units, and maternal – child care units for hospitals to report data January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010. Also updated data on hospital employed and contract nurse staffing for each of the three unit types.
- Updated data on the total volume of hospital emergency department visits, including the volume of patient visits admitted to hospital as well as those treated as outpatients only from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010. Updated the percentage of emergency department visits where patients left before being seen or against medical advice as well for January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010.
- Updated ambulatory surgical treatment centers outpatient conditions and charges on the Services page from January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010.
- Updated breast feeding measures data reporting February 1, 2011 through July 31, 2011.
