Study finds sharing EHR data results in savings across Memphis EDs

A recent study released by the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association found that sharing electronic health information across every major emergency department in the Memphis, Tenn., area resulted in reduced hospital admissions, reduced radiology tests and an annual cost savings of nearly $2 million.  The study — titled, “The Financial Impact of Health Information Exchange on Emergency Department Care” — is the first in the U.S. to measure the city-wide effects of health information exchange on ED care
