Michigan Health & Hospital Association released its annual report on patient safety and quality in Michigan hospitals, including information on hospital-acquired infections, deaths from errors and health care costs. The report – 2011 MHA Patient Safety and Quality Annual Report – looked at data voluntarily reported by hospitals from May 2009 through September 2011. Hospitals voluntarily submit adverse patient events to the association’s patient-safety organization. Unlike Michigan, some states have laws requiring hospitals report adverse events.
The Michigan Health & Hospital Association website (MI Hospital Inform – www.mihospitalinform.org), allows patients to view health care quality data on surgical infections and other common hospitalizations, plus price information on 50 inpatient and outpatient procedures.
