HealthGrades has released its ninth annual Hospital Quality and Clinical Excellence study, rating cities for the first time (Top 50 cites for hospital care). The rankings are based on a comprehensive study of Medicare patient death and complication rates across 26 different medical procedures and diagnoses at the nation’s nearly 5,000 hospitals between 2007 and 2009. Of the 5,000, only 268 hospitals had risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates low enough to be designated as a HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence.
