California Department of Public Health (CDPH), have released their first report on infections that patients acquire during their stay at hospitals in the state. The technical report – Healthcare-associated Bloodstream Infections in California Hospitals – provides information regarding the incidence rate of healthcare-associated bloodstream infections from January 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010.
In 2008, California became one of 28 states to mandate public reporting of HAIs. The statute (California Senate Bill (SB) 1058 (Chapter 296, Statutes of 2008, California Health and Safety Code (HSC) sections 1288.55 and 1288.8) became effective January 1, 2009, and requires CDPH to post this data on its Web site by January 1, 2011
