Hearst Newspapers has assembled a searchable database of patient safety measures for nearly 2,000 hospitals based on 2007 hospital billing and discharge data (administrative data). The Niagara Health Quality Coalition applied AHRQ measures to data collected by Hearst to determine each hospital’s safety record and rank them. Hospitals were evaluated based on mortality rates, patient safety indicators, volume of certain procedures, adverse events and hospital participation in national safety programs. Data is available for hospitals in New York, Washington, California, Texas and Connecticut.
