The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has released a report on serious reportable events at Massachusetts hospitals in 2008, reports The Boston Herald. Patients experienced 338 serious reportable events at Massachusetts hospitals in 2008 – a rate of almost one event a day – according to the report.
Massachusetts hospitals were required to report to DPH any of 28 adverse medical events, including falls and surgical and medication errors, within seven days of occurrence, since January 1, 2008.
