Florida hospital adopts innovative approach to hospital pricing transparency

To assist consumers make informed healthcare purchasing decisions, Wuesthoff Health System, based in Rockledge, Florida, are adopting an innovative approach to hospital pricing transparency. They are collecting data from Brevard County residents, to be published on their Web site, that will facilitate the comparison of hospital pricing.

Wuesthoff Health System are asking residents of Brevard County who had a medical procedure performed from July 2007 through May 2008 to provide Explanation of Benefit (EOB) health insurance documents. They are gathering these EOB forms – with confidential information removed – for many types of procedures in numerous categories from 5 health plans. And the first person who submits an Explanation of Benefit (EOB) form that qualifies from each category receives a $100 gas card, to a maximum of three gas cards per person.
