The Department of Health and Human Services has issued a plan designed to significantly reduce health care-associated infections within five years, reports Health Data Management.
Among other factors, the Action Plan to Prevent Healthcare-Associated Infections calls for substantial use of information technology to support infection reduction initiatives. The plan envisions I.T. supporting more rapid and complete detection of infection, improving dissemination of reporting data, and making infection data available for an entire episode of care.
HHS is seeking public comment on the plan, which is available at hhs.gov/ophs.
