Health Data Management reports the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services plans to implement a survey to measure and publicly report patient satisfaction with home health care services.
The survey is an expansion of the CAHPS program, (Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems), to measure consumer satisfaction with the performance of hospitals, physicians, nursing homes and hemodialysis services.
CMS is seeking approval of the home health survey from the National Quality Forum and the Office of Management and Budget. Data collection and reporting will begin in 2009 and initially home health agency participation will be voluntary.
