Massachusetts Health Care Quality and Cost Council release new hospital cost, quality comparison Web site

The Massachusetts Health Care Quality and Cost Council has released a new website – My HealthCare Options – to enable residents to compare the cost and quality of care at different hospitals. The Web site will assist consumers compare costs for as many as 40 procedures. They include cardiac surgery or every day events like baby deliveries.

The website was required as part of the state’s mandatory health insurance law. The Massachusetts Health Care Quality and Cost Council, which oversees the website, collected payment data from all private health insurers in Massachusetts.

As previously blogged in August, the launch of State Web site was delayed due to the complex system insurers use to pay hospitals. The Website reveals what insurers actually pay specific hospitals for common medical procedures in Massachusetts.
