Health Data Management reports Aetna Inc. will launch a pay-for-performance program for hospitals in two areas of Washington state: Puget Sound and Spokane. The national payer organization has licensed the Leapfrog Hospital Rewards Program, a national model for P4P programs from the Leapfrog Group, a Washington-based patient safety advocacy organization sponsored by employers.
The Leapfrog program is designed to measure the quality of care and efficiency with which hospitals use resources in clinical areas that represent a significant portion of hospital admissions and expenditures among commercially insured patients. It includes standardized measures, data collection and scoring analysis based on average length of stay, readmission rates and other parameters. All data is collected from participating hospitals electronically via Leapfrog’s Hospital Quality and Safety Survey.
