Michigan Health & Hospital Association plans to launch a new Web site (www.mihospitalinform.org) Jan. 1, reports Crain’s Detroit Business.
In a move towards greater health care transparency, the new site will make 146 of Michigan hospitals quality-of-care and pricing information available to the public.
The site will provide quarterly quality-of-care data on the 50 most common inpatient and outpatient procedures at the hospitals, and annual averages for the hospitals’ charges and reimbursements from Medicare. It will also include total numbers of patients by procedure and average lengths of stay for Medicare inpatients. The association hopes to include data from Medicaid and commercial and nonprofit carriers at a later date.
Michigan will join a small number of other states that voluntarily make the data on price and quality available. Those states include Wisconsin, Washington and Iowa.
