CompareCare West Virginia, the Web site launched by the West Virginia Health Care Authority, enables consumers to make informed decisions about which hospitals to choose for medical procedures or diagnostic testing, by publishing information about West Virginia hospital charges, quality of care, and related health options. The Web site enables users to see the breakdown of hospital and physician charges by zip code and specific medical procedure.

The CompareCare West Virginia Web site provides listings of West Virginia hospital and professional average charges, in simple chart form, according to the medical procedure, service or diagnostic tests needed. The chart allows patients to compare what different West Virginia hospitals charge on average for the same service. The average gross technical and aggregate professional charges are displayed for frequent and/or common inpatient and outpatient services. Total cost is broken down by hospital charges and physician charges. The Web site does not rate the quality of services of hospitals in West Virginia, although it provides links to public and private sources that do.
